Veiller au grain pour un avenir durable (Guarding the Grain for a Sustainable Future)
The Guarding the grain for a sustainable future project aims to create concrete opportunities for collaboration among different actors in the supply chain and accelerate the transition toward regenerative and diversified production of cereals and oilseeds on field crop farms in Montérégie, Québec.
This initiative is structured around three pilot projects:
Building a sustainable local malting barley value chain: Supporting the integration of malting barley into corn–soy rotations, improving quality and traceability, and meeting micro-malt grade specifications for craft breweries.
2.
Developing a “Huiles du Québec” value chain: Structuring a value chain for oilseeds (sunflower, camelina, etc.) that promotes sustainable farming practices through a joint promotional campaign for Québec-produced oils.
3.
Replacing corn with rye in hog feed: A research project with Université Laval to introduce a more resilient cereal into animal rations, contributing to crop diversification and soil health.
