Measure, Collabore, Act: Concrete Solutions for a More Sustainable Agri-Food Chain
Over a hundred actors from the agri-food sector — producers, processors, consultants, financiers, and researchers — gathered for our first webinar last December to discuss a central issue: how collaboration can accelerate the transition to sustainable farming practices in the context of increased ESG disclosures.
As Jean-Michel Couture, President of Groupe AGÉCO and one of our panelists, said: “ESG disclosure will become a market access barrier.”
Indeed, the pressure is increasing to collect and disclose reliable environmental, social, and governance data, but these challenges also present opportunities to highlight everyone’s efforts, innovate, and build strong collaborations.
Key takeaways:
- Data is essential: Measure yourself, or be measured. Without credible data, actors in the agri-food chain risk being penalized by international standards or misperceptions.
- Producers are already taking action: However, they will need technical and financial support to continue the transition to more sustainable and measurable farming practices.
- Collaboration is key: Processors, retailers, producers, experts, and investors must work together to tackle the challenges of data collection and disclosure.
